Work Exchange 2013
Online Form Coming Soon
Greetings from NOFA Work Exchange!
From August 9th to 11th, 2013, we'll be holding our annual NOFA Summer Conference. As in past years, the 3-day conference will be held at the UMass/Amherst campus. This 3-day event has an attendance of approximately 1,500 people from New England, New York, New Jersey, and other foreign lands. Each year we rely on a team of NOFA member volunteers who donate approximately 25 hours of labor before, during and at the close of the conference in exchange for free conference registration, free camping, a free Saturday night local meal, a $50 stipend, and a great experience working closely with NOFA staff members. I'd like to invite you to apply to be a Work Exchange volunteer and help us make the magic happen.
Anyone 18 or over who is a NOFA member is eligible to apply for Work Exchange. We choose people who enjoy dealing with the public, are flexible, eager to work as a team member and enthusiastic about representing NOFA. As in past years, work exchange volunteers are given positions of leadership, fill crucial support roles, and learn on the job. We also won't sleep a lot, will get tired, won't have much of a life for three days, and will get worked like rented mules. All in all, it's usually a lot of fun, and all for a good cause.
You can apply for Work Exchange by filling out the application below and submitting it. The application period will be open until June 15th, and you will be notified by June 25th as to whether or not you have been accepted. Previous Work Exchange participants who received positive reviews will receive preference in the selection process. Once accepted for Work Exchange, I'll get in touch with you and find out in what job you'd be most useful. Unlike in past years, you won't be part of a general labor pool, and we won't be asking you to sign up for two-hour shifts. Instead, you'll apprentice under one of our program leaders and work with them for the duration of the conference (e.g. registration, fair, entertainment, &c). We hope that this will streamline the working experience for all, and will give you a solid grounding in your chosen field.
If you want to be a part of this, get your application back to me by June 15th. I'll compile the list of applicants, conduct phone interviews with prospective volunteers, and let you know whether we'd like you on the team this year. To apply for Work Exchange simply fill out the application below and submit it. For questions about the process, please contact me at: volunteer@nofamass.org.
If you are accepted for Work Exchange we will ask you to:
1) Sign up for your preferred understudy field;
2) Complete the NOFA Summer Conference Registration form and pay any fees (as a Work Exchange volunteer you receive free registration, free camping, and one meal on Saturday night. You can buy other meals or a dorm room, if you wish); and
3) Send a copy of your registration confirmation to us.
Best of luck.
